Regulations 2010

 

Art.1 – The competition
“Radici 2010 is the competition based on the comparison of wines produced from native grapes of Apulia and Basilicata, cured by ProPapilla Association whose aim consists in selecting the label that best represents the grape’s tipicity.
ProPapilla’s mission is to enhance the local enograstronomy in order to safeguard the huge cultural heritage that makes the typical agro-food products still appreciated. Under the name of Radici, the Association carries out every initiative that supports the production of wine from native grapes, pursuing the goal of promoting the high quality of Apulian wine labels, strengthening their image and giving them greater visibility within national and foreign markets that look for authentic products able to express the terroirs they come from. The 2010 fifth edition of “Radici – the Festival of native grapes” is going to take place on 6th, 7th and 8th June 2010 at Relais & Chateaux Il Melograno in Monopoli (Bari) www.melograno.com.
 
Art. 2 – Participants
All the wines obtained and produced in Apulia and Basilicata are allowed to enter the competition, according to the categories mentioned in art. 3. The followings are allowed to participate:
-       Wine growers who produce wine on their own
-       Wineries that manufacture, package and market their wine
-       Cooperatives and organizations of producers
-       Bottling and packaging firms able to guarantee, through proper documents, the origin of the competing wine.
 
Art. 3 - Competing categories
The competing groups of wines are the following:
 
A)White wines from native grapes:
Group 1: Bombino
Group 2: Fiano
Group 3: Minutolo
B) Mixed group of white wines from native grapes: Verdeca, White Malvasia, Malvasia di Candia, Greco, Moscato, Bianco d’ Alessano, Francavidda, Impigno, Pampanuto, Falanghina;
C)     Rosé wines from native grapes (Black Bombino, Black Malvasia, Negroamaro, Nero di Troia, Primitivo, Montepulciano)
D)    Negroamaro
E)     Nero di Troia
F)     Primitivo
G)    Mixed group of red wines from native grapes (Black Malvasia, Susumaniello, Ottavianello, Tuccanese, Montepulciano)
H)    Aglianico del Vulture
WARNING - all the competing wines, including those of the two mixed groups, can be assembled with other native grapes on condition that 70% of the chosen grape prevails. The wines belonging to the two mixed groups have no limitations of percentage or grapes on condition that they are among those mentioned in art. 3 (B-G)
 
Art. 4 – Prescriptions
More than two labels per each winery are not allowed. However the producer is not obliged to send two kinds of wine. If two are sent, they will not compete within the same category.
 
Art. 5 – How the competition is conducted
The Competition (art. 1) is going to be held on Sunday the 6th, Monday the 7th and Tuesday the 8th of June 2010 at Relais &Chateaux Il Melograno in Monopoli (Bari).
The samples entering the competition will be anonymous and judged through the tasting of two separate juries: one made up of experts and the other one composed of lovers, as written in art.9. The tastings are going to take place on Sunday 6th June from 4.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m., on Monday the 7th June from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and on Tuesday the 8th June from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m..
Tastings can be joined on demand and booking at info@ivinidiradici.com both on Sunday from 4.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. and on Monday from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.. 
 
Tastings can be attended by invitation only, addressed to producers, restaurateurs, sommeliers, wine bar owners, opinion leaders and journalists.
 
 
Art. 6 How the juries are composed
The technical jury is composed of: Wilfried Moselt (Germany – wine writer and official taster), Lilian Turmes (Luxembourg – one of the most known judges of the world, she writes for international wine magazines and on her own website www.vinum.lu), Tom Cannavan (Great Britain – skilled taster and journalist, he writes for www.wine-pages.com as well as for the popular magazine Decanter), Mayumi Nakagawara (Japan – she writes for the magazine Winart and is considered one of the best experts of Italian wines and grapes in Japan and AIS sommelier), Tom Hyland (U.S.A. He works for several magazines and Internet blogs and websites as Reflections on Wine, Learn Italian Wines e Wine Lovers Page), Kile Philips (U.S.A. – journalist, expert of Italian wines leading the website www.italianwinereview.com), Juancho Asenjo (contributor of most important Spanish website www.elmundovino.com  and expert of Italian wine), Whitney Adams (one of the most known wine blogger in U.S.A: Brunellos have more fun link http://www.brunelloshavemorefun.com/), Christina Pikard (Great Britain - professional wine presenter in London, England for media and television and also a wine host for many corporate events companies, present regularly on BBC’s popular wine and food program Market Kitchen www.winewithchristina.co.uk), Paolo Zaccaria (expert wine taster for Gambero Rosso), Roberto Giuliani (wine expert, responsible for the website www.lavinium.com, one of the most renewed sites on Italian wine), Franco Ziliani (Journalist and wine expert, director of www.vinoalvino.org), Carlo Macchi (skilled wine taster and journalist www.winesurf.it), Luciano Pignataro (skilled wine taster and journalist for Il Mattino, www.lucianopignataro.it).
 
The lovers jury is composed of: Teodosio Buongiorno (Restaurant Già sotto l’Arco www.giasottolarco.it), Maria Battaglia (journalistf Italian food and wine lover, director of the American online review www.altacucinasociety.com), Paolo Costantini (ONAV professor), Francesco Zompì (opinion leader, wine lover), Giuseppe Galeone (restaurant il Castelletto), Luciano Lombardi (restaurant Vigna del Mar, www.vignadelmar.it), Giulio Cantatore (Wine bar Angolo Divino), Betty Mezzina (A.I.S. sommelier and journalist), Vincenzo Rizzi (eno-food journalist), Anna Tasselli (restaurant Odissea, www.ristoranteodissea.it), Antonella Ricci (restaurant Al Fornello da Ricci), Francesca Mosele (restaurant La Bul, www.labul.it), Giovanni Marsella (restaurant La Cuccagna), Rosario Didonna (restaurant U’ Vulesce), Matthew Watkins (consumer, wine lower).
 
Art 7. How wines are judged
The voting will be anonymous both for the covered wines and the judgment report expressed by both juries. At the end of the tastings, each jury separately will elect the first and the second place per group doing a sum of the totals of each taster. Thus, the winners for each category will be four: two will be determined by the jury made up of experts and two by the lovers. The highest scores, given by summing the two juries’ votes, will determine an absolute first, second and third winner.
The best “organic and biodynamic wine” will be awarded a special prize, if the number of organic and biodynamic samples is 10 or more than ten. A notary, helped by one of the organizers, will guarantee all operational modes. In order to safeguard the participant wineries, the score given to each sample won’t be announced.
 
Art. 8 Winner declaration
The winner declaration of the fifth edition is going to take place on Tuesday the 8th of June 2010 during a conclusive meeting. The event will be attended by a selected audience invited by the organizers, jurors and journalists.
After the declaration, the audience can taste all the competing wines and enjoy the final buffet.
 
 
Art. 9 –  Rights to mention the award
The wineries or producers awarded a prize during the fifth edition of Radici Festival will be allowed to mention their award, being politically correct towards consumers. The mention on the labels is to be just reported on the batch corresponding to the awarded sample. There will be a specific mark authorized by the Competition Organization according to marketing needs.
 
 
Art. 10 Forbidden
It’s expressly forbidden to use Radici’s brand or graphical image without receiving any written authorization of the brand ownership.
